The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that the low-pressure system over the northern East Sea has intensified into a tropical depression.
As of 4:00 AM on June 10, the center of the tropical depression was at approximately 15.7°N latitude and 115.7°E longitude, about 360 km east-southeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago. It is currently moving slowly westward at about 5 km/h.
Forecast for the next 24–48 hours:
By 4:00 AM on June 11, the tropical depression will continue moving west at about 5 km/h and is expected to strengthen. At this time, it will be located near 15.5°N and 114.4°E, about 240 km east-southeast of the Hoang Sa Islands. Wind speeds will increase to level 6-7 with gusts up to level 9.
Danger zone at sea (next 24 hours): Areas experiencing wind speeds from level 6 or higher and gusts from level 8 or higher are located between 13.0°N and 18.5°N latitude and 112.0°E to 118.0°E longitude.
The risk level for dangerous weather at sea is level 3, affecting the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa Islands) and the northern part of the central East Sea.
By 4:00 AM on June 12, the tropical depression may intensify into a tropical storm (Storm No.1), moving west-northwest at 10–15 km/h. It will likely be located over the Hoang Sa area near 16.3°N and 111.7°E. Wind strength will increase to level 8-9, with gusts reaching level 11.
Danger zone at sea (next 48 hours): Expands from 13.5°N to 18.5°N and from 109.5°E to 117.0°E.
The risk level for strong winds and dangerous weather remains at level 3, affecting the northern East Sea, the northern section of the central East Sea, and offshore waters from Hue to Quang Ngai.
Outlook for the next 48–72 hours: The storm may shift direction toward the northwest at about 10 km/h and continue to strengthen.
Due to the impact of the tropical depression potentially developing into Storm No.1, the northern East Sea and northern central waters will experience thunderstorms, strong winds (level 6-7), gusts up to level 9, and rough seas with wave heights of 2–4 meters. Vessels in the danger zone must stay alert to thunderstorms, waterspouts, strong winds, and high waves.
Forecast for strong winds, high waves, and thunderstorms:
June 10 (day and night): Waters from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau, the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa Islands), and the central and southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa Islands) will see southwest winds at level 6, occasionally level 7 at night, with gusts at level 8–9. Seas will be rough with wave heights of 2–5 meters.
Additionally, thunderstorms with strong winds will affect the northern, central, and southern East Sea, offshore from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The Gulf of Tonkin will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with possible waterspouts and strong gusts up to level 6–7. Waves may exceed 2 meters.
