At noon on July 21, Nguyen Anh Cuong, Chairman of the Binh Hung Hoa Ward People’s Committee, confirmed that functional forces had caught the crocodile after organizing a targeted search operation based on public reports.
Earlier that morning, the crocodile surfaced and swam along the canal’s edge. Authorities swiftly responded using specialized tools to surround and retrieve the animal from the water.
According to the ward chairman, the captured crocodile is a young adult, weighing approximately 3 kilograms. The animal will be handed over to the local forest ranger unit for further care before being released back into the wild.
For nearly two weeks, residents in Binh Hung Hoa had reported sightings of the crocodile in the Nuoc Den Canal. Witnesses described the animal as being about the size of an adult’s calf, frequently seen sunbathing on a mound of soil in the canal during the day.
The animal appeared accustomed to human presence, often lounging in the sun. However, it became more elusive after curious children attempted to approach and “capture” it.
Upon receiving these reports, local authorities in Binh Hung Hoa deployed teams to verify the information and develop a strategy to safely capture the crocodile.
