Authorities in Tan Binh Commune, Tan Thanh District, Long An Province, have issued an emergency warning to local residents following the sighting of a crocodile approximately 1 meter in length in the Lo Duong Canal.
On May 20, the Tan Binh Commune People's Committee announced that the crocodile had been spotted near the section of the canal that intersects with Canal 12.
According to the report, at around 4:20 p.m. on May 18, a local resident traveling by boat on the canal noticed the reptile surfacing briefly before submerging and disappearing into the water after being startled by a loud noise.
Based on the witness’s account, the animal is estimated to be about one meter long. Authorities are treating the sighting seriously, as there is a potential risk to public safety, particularly for children and those engaging in water activities along the canal.
The commune's leadership has urgently advised residents to remain vigilant, avoid allowing children to swim in the canal, and refrain from casting fishing nets near the banks.
Local officials are currently working with relevant agencies to monitor the situation and prepare plans for capturing the crocodile if it resurfaces.
