On the afternoon of July 22, Nguyen Duy Khuong, a member of the Sailing Club Divers, reported sighting a whale while diving in Nha Trang Bay.

Khuong said that around midday, while diving in the bay, he noticed a whale surfacing before quickly diving back underwater. The whale appeared for about 10 minutes and then disappeared.

Despite the distance, Khuong could clearly see that the whale was of significant size. Overwhelmed by the rare scene, he quickly used his phone to capture the moment.

According to the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, the whale appeared near Hon Rom, close to Hon Mun – a strictly protected zone within the bay.

The sighting is considered a positive sign, indicating that the marine environment in the area is recovering well thanks to ongoing conservation and restoration efforts.

Recently, whale sightings have also been reported in the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak.

The frequent appearance of whales in the region suggests that the marine environment is clean, quiet, and rich in food sources – ideal conditions for large marine species.

Beyond being a rare and spectacular sight, the whale's appearance is a hopeful sign that Vietnam’s marine conservation initiatives are delivering encouraging results.
