Following a convincing 3-0 victory over Canada U21, Vietnam advanced to the semifinals where they will face the Netherlands, who defeated France U21 in the quarterfinals.
Vietnam enters the match as the underdog against the European powerhouse. The Netherlands boasts superior height, physical strength, and several world-class players.
Coach Nguyen Ngoc Hoa's squad consists mainly of reserves and young players, as key stars such as Bich Tuyen, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Le Thanh Thuy, and Khanh Dang remain in Vietnam preparing for the upcoming SEA V-League in August.
Despite not bringing their strongest lineup to the tournament, the Vietnamese team has displayed noticeable improvement in both offense and defense under Coach Ngoc Hoa’s guidance. Notably, Kim Thoa has impressed with standout performances, contributing significantly to the recent victories of the VTV Cup 2025 champions.
Beyond technical ability, the team’s fighting spirit has also earned praise. However, Kieu Trinh and her teammates will need to surpass their limits to have a chance at defeating the Netherlands.
Last year, Vietnam finished fifth at this same tournament. Now in the top four, Coach Ngoc Hoa’s team is determined not to settle but to push for a place in the final.
The Vietnam vs Netherlands match is scheduled for 3:00 PM on July 18.
