On July 18 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) and Boeing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore strategic initiatives aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of Vietnam’s national air traffic management (ATM) system.

Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate on key areas including airspace management, particularly support for the operation of Long Thanh International Airport, and the optimization of air traffic operations in the Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area.

They also plan to explore advanced information-sharing systems that enable seamless, real-time communication among aviation stakeholders.

The partnership will examine next-generation ATM technologies such as the ICAO Aviation System Block Upgrades and the FAA's NextGen framework. Training programs in leadership, business, and engineering will also be part of the collaboration.

VATM, under the direction and oversight of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, is responsible for providing flight assurance services across Vietnam’s Flight Information Regions (FIRs). This includes both civil and military aircraft operations at airports nationwide and in areas under Vietnamese control or delegation.

Nguyen Cong Long, CEO of VATM, emphasized: “This collaboration marks a key step in our mission to build a safer, smarter, and more efficient ATM system for Vietnam. By combining our operational expertise with Boeing’s global experience, we aim to achieve practical improvements that support Vietnam’s growing aviation sector.”

Dave Schulte, Managing Director of Commercial Marketing for Boeing in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, shared insights on the fast-growing aviation market in Vietnam. Passenger traffic is expected to double over the next decade, reaching over 75 million annually.

Mike Sinnett, Vice President of Product Strategy and Development for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “Boeing is committed to supporting Vietnam’s civil aviation sector and working with VATM to deliver long-term solutions that enhance safety and sustainability in modern air traffic systems.”

Over the past three decades, Boeing has expanded its presence in Vietnam through local supply chain development, workforce training, educational partnerships, and social impact initiatives. The company is active in commercial aviation, defense, aerospace supply, and community development across the country.

These investments not only bolster Vietnam’s aviation industry but also generate employment, strengthen domestic aerospace capabilities, and bring positive socioeconomic outcomes.

In Vietnam, air transport continues to drive economic growth, trade, tourism, and the global expansion of “made in Vietnam” technologies.
