According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook (CMO), Vietnam is the largest air travel market in Southeast Asia.

Dave Schulte, Managing Director of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Marketing for Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, stated that passenger traffic in Southeast Asia is expected to grow at over 7% annually.

Vietnam alone is projected to grow at over 8% per year - the highest rate in the region.

Over the next decade, Vietnam’s air traffic is expected to double, reaching over 75 million passengers per year.

Boeing estimates that airlines across Southeast Asia will need approximately 4,720 new aircraft over the next 20 years, with single-aisle planes accounting for 80% of total deliveries.

The region is also forecasted to require over 120 new and converted freighter aircraft during this period.

In addition, airlines are expected to recruit and train over 234,000 new personnel - more than three times the current aviation workforce.

Vietnam Airlines currently operates a modern Boeing fleet consisting of 11 787-9s and 6 787-10s, servicing international routes connecting Vietnam with Europe, as well as regional and domestic routes. In 2023, the carrier submitted a proposal to purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

Vietjet, Vietnam’s leading private airline by market share, has ordered 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to support its expansion plans across Asia.
