Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy signed official document No. 2258/BVHTTDL-VHCSGĐTV, sent to departments including Legal Affairs; the Ministry’s Inspectorate; and the Departments of Performing Arts, Cinema, Copyright, Broadcasting and Electronic Information, Press, Publishing and Distribution, Grassroots Culture, Family, and Library.
According to the directive, the Ministry urges these departments to effectively carry out measures to combat smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property rights violations. The Ministry also called for enhanced efforts against these practices under the current circumstances.
Each unit, based on its assigned functions, is encouraged to actively propose additional punitive measures and increased fines for advertising violations. The focus is on celebrities and public figures who exploit their influence to make false claims - especially on social media.
The Ministry also emphasized the need to intensify inspections and sanctions against violations in advertising activities, in accordance with current legal authorities.
In recent months, several celebrities have faced arrest or penalties for misleading advertising. Notable cases include Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, Nguyen Thi Thai Hang (also known as Hang Du Muc), and Pham Quang Linh (also known as Quang Linh Vlogs), all involved in promoting Kera vegetable candy.
Other figures, such as MC Van Hugo and news anchor Quang Minh, have received administrative fines for exaggerated claims about a milk product said to boost height.
