Due to the intense rainfall brought by Storm No. 3 (Wipha), central Hanoi is at high risk of severe flooding. Urban areas and many main streets in the city could experience water depths ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 meters, with some areas exceeding 0.5 meters.
The Office of the Hanoi People’s Committee has issued a flood warning for local rivers, based on forecasts from the Hydrometeorological Forecasting Department of the Northern Regional Hydrometeorological Center.
From today, July 21, through July 25, rivers across Hanoi are expected to experience a flood surge with water levels rising between 1.5 to 3.5 meters.
During this flood event, peak levels on the Da, Hong, and Duong rivers are forecast to remain below the first warning level. However, rivers such as the Day and smaller tributaries like the Bui, Tich, and Ca Lo may reach or surpass the second warning level.
Rising river levels could trigger flooding and landslides in low-lying areas and riverbanks.
Additionally, heavy rainfall with high intensity poses a serious threat of urban flooding in several residential areas and central districts of Hanoi. Floodwater could reach depths of 0.2 to 0.5 meters, and in some places, exceed 0.5 meters. Flooding is expected to last between 30 to 60 minutes, potentially longer in areas with poor drainage.
Authorities warn that rising river levels heighten the risk of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas, sandbanks, river islands, and infrastructure such as bridges, culverts, and roads near rivers including the Da, Hong, Duong, Day, Bui, Tich, and Ca Lo. Vulnerable localities include Xuan Mai, Quang Bi, Tran Phu, Chuong My ward, Dan Phuong, My Duc, Thanh Oai, Hoa Xa, and Van Dinh.
