On June 9, the HCMC police in coordination with Phong Phu commune police (Binh Chanh District) took statements from the man caught on camera transporting and discarding large volumes of drugs and supplements by the roadside.
Surveillance footage from nearby roads led investigators to the driver. During questioning, he admitted he had been hired by another party to dispose of the goods and had already received payment.
Authorities are now working with the HCMC Department of Health and other relevant agencies to trace the source of the dumped items. Investigators suspect the goods may be linked to counterfeit or substandard products lacking clear origin and that the dumping may have been an attempt to destroy evidence ahead of inspections or enforcement actions.
As reported earlier, residents discovered the discarded products on the morning of June 6. Phong Phu commune officials quickly secured the area and alerted the municipal police and health department.
Initial investigations revealed the discarded items primarily consisted of dietary supplements for liver and brain health, digestion, DHA for children, and prenatal vitamins, along with some Western pharmaceuticals.
The packaging showed expiration dates extending into 2026–2028, and labels featured Vietnamese as well as English, Korean, and Japanese. Some products listed manufacturing sites in Hanoi and Thanh Hoa.
The HCMC Police Department of Economic Crimes and related agencies are continuing to expand the investigation.
