A new report from Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) reveals significant changes in the iPhone 17’s design, while another source confirms the arrival of new color options for the upcoming lineup.

New colors for iPhone 17

Even without major design overhauls, Apple routinely refreshes iPhone colors. A report from MacRumors outlines the potential new color options for the iPhone 17 series.

For the standard iPhone 17, leaks suggest the addition of two new colors: purple and green. Currently, the iPhone 16/16 Plus is offered in ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black.

According to speculation, the teal and ultramarine options may be replaced by the new colors. However, the report notes that only one of the two new shades may appear in the final version.

For the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, a shift in material could also bring a color update. MacRumors indicates that this year’s Pro models are rumored to feature aluminum frames instead of titanium, with a hybrid aluminum-glass back design. One potential new color is sky blue.

A confirmed design overhaul from Gurman

Beyond rumors about faster charging, larger screen sizes, and concerns about battery life in the rumored “Air” model, Mark Gurman has confirmed the most significant change: this year’s iPhone will have a completely new design.

In his “Power On” newsletter, when asked whether this year’s iPhone should be considered a redesign, Gurman replied simply: “Yes.”

He elaborated, stating that internally, Apple considers the upcoming iPhone series to be a “major industrial design overhaul” compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Changes include the introduction of a super-thin iPhone 17 “Air” model, as well as redesigned back panels and camera modules for the Pro models. Gurman placed quotation marks around “Air,” suggesting the name is not yet official.

However, the front of the new iPhones will remain largely unchanged. “From the front, the new iPhones won’t look much different from recent models,” Gurman said, noting the devices are already nearly bezel-less. He also confirmed that Dynamic Island will remain in this year’s models.

Gurman added that this year’s upgrades serve as a foundation for 2026, when Apple aims to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, move closer to an all-screen front, and possibly debut its first foldable iPhone.

Looking further ahead, in 2027 Apple is expected to refresh the entire iPhone Pro lineup to celebrate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.

Earlier on June 22, leaker Majin Bu shared an image of a copper sheet allegedly part of a vapor chamber cooling system.

If accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the first iPhones to feature vapor chamber cooling.

This design includes a thin, sealed metal chamber containing a small amount of liquid. When the device heats up, the liquid evaporates and disperses heat across the surface of the chamber. The vapor then condenses, creating a continuous cooling cycle that helps dissipate heat more effectively-especially useful for the A19 Pro chip during gaming or high-performance tasks.

Despite the abundance of new information, questions remain, such as whether the ProMotion 120Hz display will be available across all iPhone 17 models, what the redesigned camera module will look like, and whether the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be renamed to iPhone 17 Ultra.

With the iPhone 17 expected to launch in September, more leaks are anticipated as Apple fans await the official reveal.
