The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has approved the reopening of Van Don International Airport and Cat Bi International Airport for aircraft operations starting at 12:00 PM on July 22.

The authority emphasized that both airports must continue monitoring weather conditions and strictly adhere to regulations for aircraft operation during adverse weather to ensure absolute safety.

Previously, due to unusual developments of Storm No. 3, the Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended aircraft operations at Van Don and Cat Bi airports from 11:00 PM on July 21 to 12:00 PM on July 22. On July 21, Van Don International Airport canceled three flights, while Cat Bi International Airport canceled 33 flights.

On July 22, Sun Group reported that Van Don International Airport had rescheduled two Vietnam Airlines flights (VN1286/VN1287 on the Ho Chi Minh City - Van Don route) to ensure the safety of passengers. Flight VN1286, originally scheduled to land at 8:00 AM, was rescheduled to 5:05 PM, and flight VN1287 was rescheduled to depart at 5:45 PM instead of 8:40 AM.

Van Don International Airport closely coordinated with Van Don Air Traffic Control Tower to keep relevant agencies and units updated on the storm’s progress and implement timely response measures. It also worked with airlines to adjust flight schedules, ensuring smooth coordination and maximum security and safety for all flights affected by the storm. On the ground, vehicles and aviation equipment were secured and relocated to safe zones. All control towers, passenger terminal entrances, and auxiliary facilities were reinforced to ensure safety.

Prior to the storm’s landfall, the Ha Long International Passenger Port (Sun Group) notified all registered vessels to move to designated safe anchor zones. The port mobilized equipment and personnel to reinforce and secure facilities and relocate assets to safe areas. Staff were assigned to remain on duty to coordinate with maritime and inland waterway authorities.

At Sun Group’s amusement parks, including Sun World Ha Long, Sun World Cat Ba, Sun World Ha Nam, and Sun World Sam Son, all operations were suspended for storm preparedness. By 10:00 AM on July 21, all storm preparation efforts were completed.

Flood control pump systems and backup generators were inspected and disconnected from the power grid to ensure system safety. Security and maintenance personnel were doubled to ensure a rapid response and effective recovery after the storm.
