
After finishing second in Group C, VTV Binh Dien Long An faced Kaohsiung Taipower (Taiwan - China) in the quarterfinals.
Coach Thai Quang Lai fielded a starting lineup featuring Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Ngoc Hoa, Nhu Quynh, Lu Thi Phuong, Kim Thoa, Khanh Dang, and foreign player Natalia.
The Vietnamese team entered the match with confidence. Thanh Thuy and Nhu Quynh delivered powerful, accurate spikes to give VTV Binh Dien Long An an early 8-4 lead. Though the opponents rallied to tie the score at 9-9, the Mekong Delta team regained control to win the first set 25-20.
In the second set, Kaohsiung Taipower capitalized on mistakes by VTV Binh Dien Long An to secure a 25-17 victory.
The third set was tightly contested, with ties at 11-11 and 15-15. However, VTV Binh Dien Long An pulled ahead in the final stretch to take the set 25-22.
In the fourth set, the Vietnamese side showed strong determination to close out the match. Thanh Thuy and Lu Thi Phuong helped the team build an early 5-2 lead, but Kaohsiung Taipower fought back to tie at 8-8 and then edged ahead 11-9. VTV Binh Dien Long An quickly responded, turning the tide at 13-12, 17-16, 20-17, and 23-20.
In a thrilling finale, the teams battled point-for-point before VTV Binh Dien Long An sealed a 28-26 win, clinching the match 3-1. The final point came after a Kaohsiung Taipower player touched the net.
While Thanh Thuy’s class was a standout, Lu Thi Phuong and Vi Thi Nhu Quynh also had stellar performances, scoring 19 and 18 points respectively.
With this victory, Thanh Thuy and her teammates have advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship. They will face the winner of the Petro Gazz vs. Beijing match at 6:00 PM on April 26.
