The book recreates key milestones in the life of President Ho Chi Minh, beginning with his childhood as Nguyen Sinh Cung in Sen village, and culminating in the historic moment when he read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square.
Through this book, readers gain insight into the arduous journey of Nguyen Tat Thanh - Nguyen Ai Quoc in his quest for national salvation. His travels across France, the United States, England, and various colonial countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa allowed him to witness the sufferings of the oppressed and eventually embrace Marxism-Leninism, which guided his leadership in Vietnam’s fight for independence.
The founding of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League marked a pivotal moment in the nation’s revolutionary history. It laid the ideological, political, and organizational groundwork for the formation of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The League produced a cadre of skilled revolutionaries, well-versed in theory and practice, who would go on to lead the struggle for independence.
Telling Ho Chi Minh’s story recounts this formative period with the following passage: “At the end of 1924, responding to Nguyen’s request to return to the homeland to engage in revolutionary activities, the Executive Committee of the Communist International sent him to China. There, he gathered Vietnamese expatriates to spread patriotic and revolutionary ideas, forming the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League. He also launched the newspaper Thanh nien as the League’s mouthpiece. The League’s activities gradually spread into Vietnam. Many young Vietnamese were secretly brought to Guangzhou for training courses led by Nguyen. Afterward, they returned home to promote the theory of national liberation and mobilize the masses.”
The book features vivid and heartfelt narratives by writers Hoang Nguyen Cat, Tran Ha, and Le Phuong Lien, complemented by dynamic watercolor illustrations by artist Ha Quang Phuong. These elements bring to life the major milestones in Ho Chi Minh’s journey toward revolutionary leadership.
A standout feature of Telling Ho Chi Minh’s story is its vibrant watercolor art, which gives young readers a visually engaging experience of the revolutionary path, patriotic spirit, and unwavering will of the great leader.
The bilingual Vietnamese-Chinese format not only aids children in learning a foreign language but also broadens accessibility for the Vietnamese diaspora - particularly children living in Chinese-speaking countries - and for international friends interested in learning about President Ho Chi Minh. The book contributes to promoting Vietnamese history and culture to a global audience.
Alongside other titles from Kim Dong Publishing House such as Following in His Footsteps by Professor, Doctor, and writer Trinh Quang Phu, and Ho Chi Minh - A man and a nation by three Italian authors, this release offers readers a deeper understanding of the path Ho Chi Minh took toward national liberation.
