Vietnam’s national women’s football team made a stunning start to their Asian Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with a dominant 7-0 victory over the Maldives in their Group E opener on June 29 at Viet Tri Stadium.

Despite fielding a B team, head coach Mai Duc Chung’s side showcased superior skill and control, allowing rising stars like Ngan Thi Van Su, Ngoc Minh Chuyen, and Tran Thi Duyen to shine on the big stage.

Van Su quickly made her mark with two goals in the opening 10 minutes, setting the tone for the match. Bich Thuy, Nguyen Thi Van, and My Anh added three more goals, with an own goal contributing to a commanding 6-0 lead by halftime.

The second half saw the introduction of key players Huynh Nhu and Hai Yen. Although Huynh Nhu missed several chances, Hai Yen found the net with a well-placed header in the 66th minute to cap the scoreline at 7-0.

Huynh Nhu had a golden opportunity late in the match to score but struck the post. Meanwhile, Maldives, despite improved defensive efforts in the second half, couldn’t find a consolation goal.

This resounding win gives Vietnam the perfect start and firmly establishes them as the top contender in Group E for a spot in the final tournament of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
