Jason Quang Vinh could be called up by coach Kim Sang Sik for Vietnam’s upcoming match against Malaysia. However, the Hanoi Police FC (CAHN) defender may want to look closely at the example of Nguyen Filip before setting his sights on the national team spotlight.
Nguyen Filip’s rise and fall

Nguyen Filip, a goalkeeper of Vietnamese-Czech heritage, was once regarded as a reliable solution for Vietnam’s goalkeeping position thanks to his European experience and consistent performances in the V-League.
In his early days with the national team, Filip quickly claimed the starting role under coach Philippe Troussier and retained that position in the early matches of coach Kim Sang Sik’s tenure.
However, during the 2024 ASEAN Cup, he featured in only two group-stage matches before being replaced by Dinh Trieu, who went on to guard the net during Vietnam's title-winning campaign.
Given Dinh Trieu’s current form, it will not be easy for Nguyen Filip to reclaim the No. 1 spot, even if he is included in future call-ups.
Lessons for Jason Quang Vinh

In light of Filip’s experience, Jason Quang Vinh may need to take some lessons to heart if he receives a national team call-up.
While his footballing ability is not in question, potential communication issues - similar to those faced by Filip - could pose a challenge.
Unlike goalkeepers, full-backs may not rely as heavily on vocal communication. Still, adjusting to a new team dynamic, especially with less training time than at the club level, will require Quang Vinh to build strong on-field chemistry quickly.
Technically, the French-Vietnamese player is considered a strong addition to coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad. However, a starting role is far from guaranteed due to tough competition - most notably from Van Vi, who has shown excellent form with the national team.
So while Jason Quang Vinh brings international experience and a fresh option to the left flank, he’ll need more than talent to earn his place. Only consistent effort and performance can secure him a spot in the starting eleven.
