At 1:55 p.m. on June 27, Nhon Trach 4 thermal power plant in Dong Nai province achieved its first synchronization with the national power grid, producing over 50MW of electricity. This significant milestone marks the completion of equipment installation and testing, highlighting the collective effort and resilience of all parties involved in the project.

The EPC general contractor consortium - Samsung C&T and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) - worked closely with the investor, Petrovietnam (Vietnam Oil and Gas Group), and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to coordinate the successful grid connection.

During the trial phase, all auxiliary systems were tested under close supervision from equipment manufacturers, suppliers, investor representatives, consultants, and the EPC consortium to ensure the highest quality and operational readiness.

The next steps include optimizing the system, coordinating operation with the national grid, and preparing the plant for commercial operation by October 2025, as scheduled.

Earlier, on June 6, Nhon Trach 4 successfully completed its first ignition and no-load run at 3,000 revolutions per minute.

By the end of June 2025, the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power plants have completed 99.7% of their construction. Nhon Trach 3 connected to the national grid on February 5 and is currently in trial operation, expected to enter commercial service by mid-August 2025.

The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 plants are Vietnam’s first power projects to utilize imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, with a combined capacity of nearly 1,500MW. Once operational, the plants will supply about 9 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national grid, supporting southern Vietnam’s power needs and enhancing national energy security.

These projects are a cornerstone in Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII, approved by the Prime Minister, and are integral to the country’s strategy for sustainable energy transition, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting a green economy.
