The project marks a major milestone for Vietnam’s data infrastructure and coincides with the 50th anniversary of national reunification (1975–2025).

Covering nearly four hectares, the data center will have a total designed capacity of 140MW and accommodate approximately 10,000 racks - making it Vietnam’s first hyperscale data center, comparable to major global facilities.

Designed and operated according to the international Uptime Tier III standard, the Tan Phu Trung data center features an average rack power density of 10kW - 2.5 times the national average - and a maximum of 60kW per rack, ideal for large-scale AI computing applications.

According to Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Viettel's Chairman and CEO, data centers today are not just about storing resources - they are foundational to digital sovereignty and the broader digital economy, society, and government.

With this project, Viettel affirms its strategic transition from traditional data centers to next-generation hyperscale models, capable of supporting national cloud platforms, large-scale data analytics, and advanced artificial intelligence applications.

Viettel has complete control over the design, infrastructure management system, and AI-powered operations of the data center. The center is also built with a green standard in mind - focusing on energy efficiency, emissions reduction, eco-friendly materials, and readiness for renewable energy integration.

Beyond serving domestic needs, the center aims to export cloud services to countries where Viettel operates telecom infrastructure, as well as to other international markets.

At the ceremony, Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, noted that the new facility is expected to become a key digital hub - attracting tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon to invest and operate in Vietnam. It will also serve as a major broadband interconnection point from Ho Chi Minh City to global economic hubs.

Once operational, the hyperscale data center will drive Ho Chi Minh City’s transition to a fully digitized economy and society, supporting smart city development, digital citizenship, and modern public administration. It will foster the adoption of emerging technologies including AI, 5G, cloud computing, IoT, Blockchain, cybersecurity, and Big Data.

Additionally, it will help build an innovation ecosystem, improve digital workforce quality, and create high-value jobs for Vietnam’s digital economy.

The data center is scheduled for completion before 2030, with phase one expected to be operational by Q1 2026.
