General Secretary and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane to offer condolences on the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong.

Memorial services for former President Tran Duc Luong were solemnly held at Vietnamese diplomatic missions around the world. Delegations expressed deep respect and profound sorrow for the late leader - an exemplary statesman and outstanding scientist who devoted his life to Vietnam. His legacy remains a guiding light for present and future generations.

This afternoon, a high-level delegation from the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the State, the National Assembly, the Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction, led by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, paid tribute at the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane.

The delegation's wreath bore the message: “The Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the State, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Lao Front for National Construction mourn deeply the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong.”

After offering incense and a moment of silence, President Sisoulith wrote in the condolence book: “On behalf of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Lao Front for National Construction, I extend our deepest condolences and profound grief over the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former Politburo member, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - a distinguished leader of the Party, State, and people of our Vietnamese brothers and sisters, and a close friend and comrade of the Party, State, and people of Laos. We will always cherish and honor his invaluable contributions to strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.”

At the National Funeral House at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hanoi, a high-level delegation from the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, led by Vice President of Laos Pany Yathotou, also paid their respects.

In the same location, a delegation from the Cambodian People's Party, headed by Men Sam An - Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party, Chairwoman of the National Council for the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia, and President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association - offered condolences.

Vietnamese students and the Vietnamese community in China also paid tribute at the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing. Similar ceremonies were held at Vietnamese embassies in Japan, Russia, South Korea, and Switzerland.

In New York, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, led a memorial service.

Staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic also held a solemn memorial for the late President.

In Hanoi, the diplomatic corps visited the National Funeral House to express their condolences. Many embassies around the world also posted tributes on their social media platforms.

Palestinian Ambassador Saadi Salama led the diplomatic delegation in Hanoi to honor the late President. Photos show him offering incense at the memorial.

US Ambassador Marc Knapper extended his deepest condolences, stating that President Tran Duc Luong was a pioneer in strengthening US-Vietnam relations. The US Embassy highlighted that his warmth and vision will be long remembered.

World leaders also sent condolence messages to Vietnam.

Senior leaders of Laos described President Tran Duc Luong as a model Party member and pillar of the Vietnamese leadership, who served the revolutionary cause with integrity. His loss is not only a great sorrow for Vietnam but also for Laos, which loses a dear friend and comrade. His contributions significantly deepened the special bond and cooperation between the two nations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent his condolences to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, and to President Tran Duc Luong’s family. “He was an outstanding leader who made significant contributions to Vietnam’s reform and development. As an old friend of the Chinese people, he tirelessly promoted China-Vietnam relations,” the message read.

President Xi expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam would transform grief into strength and continue advancing socialism.

King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Senate President Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and National Assembly President Khuon Sudary conveyed their respects, honoring Tran Duc Luong as a dedicated leader and long-time friend of Cambodia. They emphasized his key role in fostering enduring ties between the two countries.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed sorrow: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, who contributed immensely to the brotherly relationship between Cuba and Vietnam. We send heartfelt condolences to the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam.”

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz stated, “Cuba will always remember his contributions to our nations’ friendship.”

President of the Cuban National Assembly and Council of State Esteban Lazo added, “We share the sorrow of his family, friends, and the people of Vietnam in this immense loss.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent condolences, saying: “Comrade Tran Duc Luong was a great friend of Russia and made significant contributions to our bilateral relationship, especially through the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia in 2001.”
