Toyota Vietnam (TMV) has issued a recall for 1,489 units of the Toyota Yaris Cross HEV (hybrid version) produced between June 5, 2023, and November 18, 2024, due to potential issues with the panoramic glass roof. The gasoline variant is not affected, as it does not feature this equipment.

The recall was prompted by a defect in the adhesive application process for the panoramic glass roof. According to the Japanese automaker, improper adhesive installation during production could weaken the bond between the glass roof assembly and the vehicle’s roof frame.
If left unaddressed, this flaw could cause the glass roof to detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a serious safety hazard to other road users.
To ensure safety, TMV urges owners of affected Yaris Cross HEV vehicles to promptly visit the nearest Toyota service center for a free inspection and repair. Depending on the vehicle’s condition, the repair is expected to take between 1.7 and 3.7 hours.
For Yaris Cross HEVs not distributed by TMV but included in Toyota Motor Corporation’s (TMC) global recall, TMV will help verify the vehicle’s eligibility. Upon confirmation and approval from TMC, authorized Toyota service centers will provide free inspections and repairs.
This marks the second recall for the Yaris Cross since its launch in the Vietnamese market in September 2023. The first recall took place in January 2024, involving a shock absorber nut defect that affected 448 units imported between June 2 and August 30, 2023, across both gasoline and hybrid variants.

That defect stemmed from an insufficient torque applied to the shock absorber nuts. If not secured tightly, the nuts could loosen, producing abnormal noises and, in the worst-case scenario, detach entirely - compromising vehicle stability during operation.
Despite these setbacks, the Toyota Yaris Cross has quickly gained traction among Vietnamese consumers. In 2024, it sold 11,174 units, ranking second in the subcompact SUV segment, just behind the Mitsubishi Xforce.
By the end of April 2025, cumulative Yaris Cross sales reached 3,197 units, making it the best-selling B-segment SUV in the first four months of the year. Notably, Vietnamese buyers show a strong preference for the gasoline variant, which is approximately $4,500 cheaper than the HEV version, currently priced at around $25,500.
While the HEV variant boasts a hybrid powertrain, electric tailgate, and panoramic roof, most other features are similar to the gasoline version.
