In 2023-2024, the university got total revenue of VND1,721.4 billion, including VND7.3 billion from the state budget, VND1,068.8 billion from tuition fees, VND526.6 billion from scientific research and technology transfer, and VND118.7 billion from other legal sources. It is among the 11 universities in Vietnam with billion-dong revenue.

Tuition fees at the University of Economics HCM City are VND78.125 million/year for doctoral programs (VND312.5 million/course) and VND46.875 million/year for master’s programs (VND93.75 million/course). For university education, tuition fees are VND31.25 million/year for Group III majors, VND36.25 million/year for Group V, and VND30 million/year for Group VII.

The university has published 3,456 scientific articles in ISI/Scopus journals, leading in international publications in economics and management in Vietnam. Currently, 110 foreign scientists collaborate with the University of Economics HCM City.

In rankings, it is among the top 136 best universities in Asia according to Times Higher Education 2025. In Vietnam, it is first in Business, Management and Accounting; in the top two in Arts and Humanities, Economics, Econometrics, and Finance; and in the top three in Social Sciences, according to SCImago Institutions Rankings 2025.

Currently, Vietnam has 11 universities with billions of dong in annual revenue, including seven public universities: Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST); National Economics University (NEU); University of Economics HCMC; Ton Duc Thang University; HCM City University of Industry; HCM City University of Technology; and HCM City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. 

The four private universities are FPT University, HCM City University of Technology, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, and VanLang University. Their revenue mainly comes from tuition fees and other sources, with science and technology revenue remaining modest.

Ton Duc Thang University, for example, had total revenue of VND1,157 billion in 2023, with VND997.4 billion from tuition fees and only VND53.22 billion from scientific research, innovation, knowledge transfer, and sponsorship.

HCM City University of Industry had 2023 revenue of VND1,011.5 billion, with VND907.9 billion from tuition fees and only VND4.37 billion from science and technology.

HUST’s revenue in 2023 revenue was VND2,137 billion, primarily from tuition fees (VND1,430 billion). Despite being a leading polytechnic university, its science and technology revenue was only VND18 billion.

NEU had 2023 revenue exceeding VND1,400 billion, with over VND1,014 billion from tuition fees and VND42.95 billion from scientific research and technology transfer.

HCM City University of Technology had 2023 revenue of VND1,003 billion, with VND672 billion from tuition fees and VND44.4 billion from scientific research and technology transfer.

HCM City University of Technology and Education had a 2023 revenue of VND1,260 billion, with VND1,235 billion from tuition fees and only VND11 billion from scientific research and technology transfer.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University had a 2023 revenue of VND1,475 billion, with tuition fees accounting for 99 percent (VND1,454 billion) and VND11.77 billion from scientific research and technology transfer.
