Traffic police in Quang Ninh Province set up multiple checkpoints overnight to search for the suspect in an armed bank robbery that occurred earlier on May 29 at a BIDV branch in Uong Bi City.

Late on May 29, following the robbery at BIDV’s Yen Thanh Ward branch, local traffic police deployed several checkpoints and joined the search for the perpetrator.
A representative of Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 under the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department said three checkpoints have been set up at strategic locations, including Da Bac Bridge (Phuong Nam Ward, Uong Bi City), National Highway 18 (Yen Tho Ward, Dong Trieu City), and the Ben Rung Bridge roundabout (Quang Yen Town).
These checkpoints are operating through the night to block any possible escape routes the suspect might use.
At the Ben Rung Bridge roundabout checkpoint, traffic police stopped and searched each vehicle and its occupants, checking bags and belongings.
Eyewitnesses said the robbery occurred late in the afternoon. After taking the money, the robber fled the bank carrying a backpack. He jumped onto a motorbike that had been left running outside and quickly drove off.
One male bank employee ran after the suspect, shouting for help. “The motorbike engine was already on. The staff and a few residents gave chase but couldn’t catch him,” an eyewitness recounted.
As previously reported by VietNamNet, the robbery took place at 4:53 p.m. on May 29. Security camera footage captured the entire incident, which lasted only about 20 seconds.
In the video, a man wearing green clothing, a white hat, and a face mask quickly entered the bank carrying a backpack and an object resembling a knife. He threw the backpack over the counter at the cashier area.
At that time, one female bank employee and two other women were present. The suspect threatened them, climbed over the glass partition, and grabbed a large amount of cash from the counter. He then fled the scene immediately.
