In recent days, the Vietnamese football community has been abuzz with rumors suggesting that Quang Nam FC may not participate in the 2025-2026 V-League season, raising concerns that the tournament could be reduced to just 13 competing teams.

Speculation intensified following reports of a potential merger between Quang Nam FC and Da Nang FC, leaving fans of the Quang Nam team shocked and anxious about the future of a club that has long represented a region steeped in football tradition.

However, in a new development, Quang Nam FC has officially spoken out to deny any plans of dissolution. A statement posted on the club’s official fan page confirmed they are currently working with local authorities and evaluating two possible strategic directions for the club’s future.

The first option is to attract investment from capable and passionate local businesses to ensure stable operations in Tam Ky. This approach aims to contribute to the overall development of football in central Vietnam while also boosting local sports tourism and the regional economy. It is seen as the most viable path to preserving the team’s unique identity and fulfilling the expectations of loyal local supporters.

The second option, which is considered a last resort, involves transferring all personnel, players, and facilities of Quang Nam FC to SHB Da Nang Sports JSC. If executed, this would effectively merge Quang Nam FC with Da Nang FC, forming a new entity with a combined “Quang-Da” identity and ambitions of creating a more powerful presence on Vietnam’s professional football map.

As of now, neither the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) nor the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), the organizing body of the V-League, has received any official documentation from Quang Nam FC regarding withdrawal or merger. VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu has also confirmed this in a statement to the press.

In fact, on July 20, Quang Nam FC participated in a pre-season friendly, drawing 1-1 with Da Nang FC – the team they were rumored to be merging with. This indicates that the club is continuing its normal operations without any signs of suspension or shutdown.

The uncertainty surrounding the club’s future is attracting even more attention as the new season is less than a month away. The VPF has already finalized the draw and schedule for the 2025-2026 season, which was structured for 14 teams. If Quang Nam FC does not participate, it could disrupt the league format.

Quang Nam FC, the 2017 V-League champion, is known for its resilient playing style and close connection with fans in central Vietnam. The possibility of the club disappearing or being absorbed into a larger model like SHB Da Nang is disheartening to many supporters, especially given the undeniable passion for football in the region.

At present, the club’s future remains open-ended. What is clear, however, is that without a sustainable financial solution, maintaining a professional football team will be a steep challenge. Still, there is hope, as the club has chosen transparency and public engagement rather than silence, unlike some other teams that faced similar crises in the past.

For now, fans can only wait and hope that a positive decision will be made, allowing the blue-and-white team to continue competing in the V-League and carry on the proud football legacy of Quang Nam on Vietnam’s premier football stage.
