At 5:45 a.m. local time (3:45 p.m. Vietnam time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse, and the Vietnamese delegation landed in Rio de Janeiro to begin their participation in the BRICS Summit and related activities.

Welcoming them at the airport were Laudemar G. de Aguiar Neto, Deputy Minister of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of trade promotion, science, technology, innovation, and culture; Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi; and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.

This year's BRICS Summit is themed "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Governance." Key agenda items include global health cooperation, trade and investment, climate change response, artificial intelligence governance, and multilateral frameworks for peace and strengthening BRICS institutions.

These priorities align closely with Vietnam’s national goals, such as sustainable economic development en route to achieving high-income status by 2045, climate adaptation in coastal areas, and digital transformation.

This marks Vietnam’s first participation in the BRICS Summit as an official partner country. BRICS is a multilateral cooperation mechanism among emerging economies with growing global influence both economically and politically.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak at high-level sessions on topics including multilateralism, economic and financial issues, artificial intelligence, environment, climate change, and global health.

He will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries and organizations attending the summit, reaffirming Vietnam’s role, aspirations, and contributions to this multilateral mechanism. These engagements aim to deepen Vietnam’s relations with BRICS members and international institutions.

The Prime Minister will also conduct bilateral activities in Brazil to promote multi-sectoral cooperation, particularly in economics.

On June 14, Brazil, serving as the rotating BRICS chair for 2025, officially announced Vietnam as a BRICS partner country.

Vietnam, with its dynamic economy of nearly 100 million people and strategic geopolitical role in Asia, has reached a major diplomatic milestone with this partnership. It reflects the country’s growing global standing and commitment to enhancing the voice of developing nations.

By becoming a BRICS partner, Vietnam aims to actively contribute to amplifying the representation of developing countries, strengthening international solidarity, and advancing a rules-based international order. This underscores Vietnam’s dedication to global governance and its role in a more inclusive and multilateral world system.
