Following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders led delegations in bilateral talks, reviewing past cooperation and outlining future directions.
President Luong Cuong hailed President Sulyok Tamás’s visit as a significant event that helps deepen the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Hungary. Hungary was one of the first ten countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1950, during the most challenging period of Vietnam’s struggle for independence.
Vietnam values and seeks to further strengthen cooperation with Hungary, its top-priority partner and the first comprehensive partner in Central and Eastern Europe.
The President shared Vietnam’s development achievements over the past four decades of renovation and international integration under the leadership of the Communist Party. He reiterated the country’s commitment to achieving two centennial goals by 2030, centered around breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and high-quality human resources.

President Sulyok Tamás emphasized that Hungary considers Vietnam its most important partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to enhance cooperation across all areas.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral relations, especially since their elevation to a comprehensive partnership in 2018.
To strengthen political trust and mutual understanding, both sides agreed to increase high-level exchanges and people-to-people diplomacy.
They also agreed to fully leverage the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation, encouraging ministries, localities, and businesses to effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
The leaders highlighted investment cooperation in Hungary’s key sectors, including IT, energy, agriculture, food processing, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.
These areas are seen as strategic gateways for accessing ASEAN’s 650 million population and USD 4 trillion GDP market, as well as the EU market, particularly Central and Eastern Europe.
Education and training, a traditional area of cooperation, were also emphasized. The President thanked Hungary for training thousands of Vietnamese officials, many of whom now hold key government roles.

Hungary continues to regard Vietnam as a strategic partner in Southeast Asia.
Both nations agreed to maximize the effectiveness of the 200 annual scholarships Hungary offers to Vietnamese students, prioritizing training in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, ICT, environmental sciences, and agriculture.
They also discussed boosting cooperation in defense, science and technology, agriculture, medicine, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, digital transformation, IT, environmental protection, and water resource management.
President Luong Cuong called on Hungarian authorities at all levels to continue facilitating the Vietnamese community’s integration, enabling them to contribute positively to Hungary’s development and bilateral friendship.
Before the welcome ceremony, President Sulyok Tamás and the First Lady laid a wreath at the Monument to National Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son Street, Hanoi.
Since upgrading to a comprehensive partnership in 2018, bilateral trade has grown substantially, exceeding USD 1 billion. Vietnam is now one of Hungary’s largest trade partners in Southeast Asia.
Hungary was the first EU country to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), underscoring its strong commitment to protecting investors’ rights and ensuring a stable, transparent business environment.
To date, Hungary has invested USD 72.36 million in Vietnam, ranking 55th among 149 countries and territories with FDI in the country. Conversely, Vietnam has two investment projects in Hungary worth USD 5.8 million and a newly signed large-scale project exceeding USD 80 million.
Hungary plays an important role in training Vietnamese human resources, especially in engineering, medicine, and the natural sciences, with thousands of Vietnamese students having studied there.
With a community of over 7,000 Vietnamese, the diaspora in Hungary is well integrated and actively contributes to socio-economic development. They also serve as a vital bridge for fostering strong, enduring ties between the two nations.
