Deepening diplomatic and economic ties with Egypt
Egypt holds a vital geostrategic position as one of the most influential countries in the Middle East, Africa, and the Arab world. It also hosts the headquarters of the Arab League. This visit marks the first by a senior Vietnamese leader to Egypt in seven years.
Diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Egypt date back to 1963, grounded in mutual support during struggles for national liberation and cooperation at international and multilateral forums.
Economically, Egypt is a key trade partner for Vietnam in the North African region. Bilateral trade reached $541.36 million in 2024, the highest in North Africa. Egypt currently has 22 registered investment projects in Vietnam totaling $2.87 million. Cooperation agreements have also been signed between Hanoi and Cairo (July 2023), and between Ninh Binh and Luxor (August 2018).
Strengthening 50 years of Vietnam-Angola friendship
President Luong Cuong's visit to Angola is the first state-level trip by a Vietnamese head of state in 17 years. The two countries share a deep-rooted political bond, forged during their shared struggles against colonialism and imperialism and maintained through mutual support in national development and defense.
High-level exchanges and mutual support at multilateral forums have continued to strengthen this relationship.
Trade and investment relations have improved significantly, with two-way trade nearing $250 million in 2024. Vietnamese businesses have shown increasing interest in Angola, particularly in the oil and gas, hydropower, agriculture, and mining sectors.
Angola is home to the largest Vietnamese community in Africa, numbering around 6,000 people, primarily healthcare and education experts who settled there in the 1980s.
Currently chairing the African Union, Angola holds substantial influence across 54 member states and within the United Nations and other multilateral forums. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Angola (1975-2025).
This trip presents an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen and elevate ties with key African nations, reflecting Vietnam’s evolving foreign policy stance toward contributing more actively to peace, cooperation, and development globally.
President Luong Cuong is expected to deliver major policy speeches at the Arab League and the Angolan Parliament, conveying Vietnam's strategic vision for a greater role in global governance, economic connectivity, and cultural diplomacy - reaffirming the direction emphasized by General Secretary To Lam.
