The Norwegian Pavilion officially opened on the morning of March 5, with the presence of Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam, Hilde Solbakken; Norwegian Commercial Counsellor and Director of Innovation Norway, Karin Greve-Isdahl; representatives from seven Norwegian companies, including VARD, Jotun, DNV, Metizoft, Bergen Engines AS, Brødrene Aa, and Brunvoll AS; and their Vietnamese partners.

As a nation with a rich maritime history, Norway is at the forefront of green shipping. Its maritime cluster is among the most comprehensive in the world, encompassing shipowners, brokers, insurance and financial services, classification institutions, shipyards, ship equipment manufacturers, maritime education institutions, research and development centers, aquaculture networks, maritime authorities, employer organizations, and NGOs. With expertise in sustainable maritime solutions, Norway is actively working to decarbonize the industry and transition toward greener shipping.

Norwegian Leaders Highlight Green Maritime Initiatives

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Solbakken emphasized the significance of Norway’s participation at VietShip 2025, stating: “We are very happy to be at VietShip this year alongside seven Norwegian companies that represent Norway’s maritime cluster. The Norwegian Pavilion serves as a platform for showcasing state-of-the-art maritime solutions and technologies, while also fostering knowledge exchange, business networking, and collaboration with Vietnamese partners. Together, we aim to develop the maritime industry while reducing its carbon footprint in Vietnam and beyond.

The shipping industry currently accounts for approximately 3% of global man-made greenhouse gas emissions. In July 2023, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) took a significant step by adopting a strategy aimed at achieving net-zero emissions from international shipping by 2050.

As ocean nations, Vietnam and Norway are deeply connected through maritime trade. Both countries are members of the IMO, and green maritime initiatives will open new opportunities for businesses, create jobs in coastal communities, and drive sustainable development. Navigating a green voyage together is in our mutual interest, and we look forward to establishing new partnerships between Norwegian and Vietnamese companies.”

Norwegian Commercial Counsellor and Director of Innovation Norway, Karin Greve-Isdahl, also spoke about Norway’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the maritime sector:

“With its long history as a seafaring nation, Norway has extensive expertise in developing innovative and sustainable solutions that will drive the green transition in the maritime industry. Norway boasts a comprehensive value chain and a unique network of regional clusters. Low- and zero-emission solutions, along with the necessary infrastructure for passenger vessels, are already proven and mature technologies in Norway, ready for export.

At VietShip 2025, Norwegian companies will showcase how each of them contributes to the industry’s success by leveraging their maritime expertise, setting ambitious emission reduction targets, pioneering zero- and low-emission vessel construction, fostering a comprehensive green maritime ecosystem, and engaging in international collaboration. GREEN, SMART, and INNOVATIVE are the defining characteristics of Norway’s maritime solutions, positioning the country as a leader in the development and adoption of green shipping technologies.”

Norwegian Pavilion at VietShip 2025: A Hub for Innovation and Collaboration

The Norwegian Pavilion at VietShip 2025 offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore interactive exhibits, meet company representatives, and learn about advanced maritime solutions. In addition to showcasing their innovations, Norwegian companies will participate in specialized seminars and engage in B2B meetings with interested businesses.

Among the seven Norwegian companies featured in the Pavilion, VARD, DNV, Jotun, and Metizoft have already established a commercial presence in Vietnam, while Bergen Engines AS, Brødrene Aa, and Brunvoll AS are entering the Vietnamese market for the first time.

As the largest and longest-running shipbuilding, shipping, and offshore technology exhibition in Vietnam, VietShip provides a key platform for businesses to exchange knowledge and develop collaborative and innovative solutions for the maritime and offshore energy industries. Organized by the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) and the Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Company (VISEC), VietShip 2025 aims to showcase cutting-edge shipbuilding, ship repair, marine equipment, offshore energy services, and construction of marine structures.
