A young motel owner became suspicious when a male guest staying alone kept buying large quantities of ice. After consulting ChatGPT about the unusual behavior, she decided to report the matter to police - leading to the discovery of an illegal drug lab.
The Drug Crime Investigation Division of Quang Ngai Police has officially prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Huu Quyet (born 1997, from Thanh Hoa Province) on charges of illegally producing narcotics.
In mid-March, Quyet rented a room in a motel in Truong Quang Trong Ward, Quang Ngai City. There, he purchased chemicals and raw materials to produce synthetic drugs, which he later advertised for sale on social media.
Throughout his stay, Quyet kept the room tightly shut and rarely went outside - only leaving to collect or send packages and buy supplies. Strangely, although staying alone, he repeatedly purchased large quantities of ice and brought it into the room.
Noticing his unusual behavior, the 23-year-old female motel owner became concerned. She asked ChatGPT about “criminals using ice” and received a response suggesting that ice could be used to preserve or aid in the production of illegal substances.

Alarmed by the potential danger, she promptly notified local police.
On March 17, during a routine inspection, authorities discovered that the room rented by Quyet contained a large quantity of tools and chemicals used to manufacture narcotics.
Quyet admitted that he had learned drug-making techniques in Cambodia and came to Quang Ngai to carry out the operation. He purchased chemicals and large amounts of ice to facilitate the drug production process.
The finished drugs were cleverly disguised as ADB essential oils, soft drinks, and e-cigarette liquids - targeting students and young consumers.
In Quang Ngai alone, Quyet had produced seven liters of synthetic drugs and was preparing to distribute them when he was arrested.
