The organizers of the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III) have informed VietNamNet that Moon So Ri will return to Da Nang alongside her husband, acclaimed director Jang Joon Hwan, who will serve as the jury president of the Asian competition category.

Moon So Ri first attended DANAFF in 2023 as a jury member. At the time, she shared with the press: “Among Asian countries, Vietnamese cinema has left a deep impression on me. I understand it’s not easy for Vietnamese films to gain traction and recognition in Korea, but there is so much potential to explore. I believe that one day soon, Vietnam can bring its cinema to Korea and to the rest of Asia.”

Moon So Ri’s return to DANAFF III this year, this time accompanied by her husband, promises a rich dialogue between Korean and Vietnamese cinema, and between artists and audiences.

Born in 1974, Moon So Ri made her international debut in Oasis, directed by Lee Chang Dong. Her bold and challenging role as a woman with a complex disability earned her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actress at the 2002 Venice Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in her cinematic journey.

Since then, Moon So Ri has continued to prove her acting prowess through a wide range of artistic films, including A Good Lawyer’s Wife, The Handmaiden, The Running Actress, Three Sisters, and most recently, the widely acclaimed When Life Gives You Tangerines.

Each of her roles delves deep into the psychology of her characters, exploring the gritty, complex, and emotional facets of modern Korean women. Beyond acting, she has expanded her presence in the arts as a screenwriter, director, and university lecturer. She is also the first Korean actress to serve as a jury member at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.

Returning to DANAFF III, Moon So Ri brings with her a wealth of life and artistic experience. Along with her husband Jang Joon Hwan - renowned for the provocative Save the Green Planet, one of 14 films selected for DANAFF III’s Korean Cinema Focus, and for 1987: When the Day Comes - the couple embodies an enduring artistic partnership contributing lasting value to Korean cinema.

Her appearance is expected to be a major highlight of DANAFF III.
