The department recently submitted a proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as part of its key initiatives for the remainder of 2025, suggesting the revival and development of the tourism product "Sightseeing Ho Chi Minh City from above by helicopter."

According to the department, this is a unique and distinctive tourism offering that had been piloted previously and received strong interest and positive feedback from tourists and travel agencies alike.

To revive the tour, the department recommends introducing supportive policies to encourage tourism development, along with revising administrative procedures to reduce red tape and facilitate quick, smooth approval for investors. The proposal also emphasizes the need for support and coordination among relevant departments and agencies.

Back in April 2022, the Department of Tourism coordinated with Military Hospital 175, Southern Helicopter Company, and several travel businesses to trial this new tourism experience. The 40-minute helicopter tours resulted in five flights, carrying 80 passengers total (16 per flight).

The helicopter tour garnered considerable interest from both domestic and international travelers and partners. Based on this reception, the department previously proposed that the city request the Ministry of National Defense to authorize regular operation of the "Helicopter sightseeing tour over Ho Chi Minh City" within 2022.

However, despite the enthusiasm, the service has yet to become a regular offering due to obstacles related to flight permits and scheduling for takeoff and landing.
