On the afternoon of July 2, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc met with Mr. Tezuka Daisuke, Chief Representative of AEON Vietnam, to discuss investment directions and upcoming projects in the city.
During the meeting, Mr. Tezuka Daisuke congratulated Ho Chi Minh City on its expansion into a major metropolis with international-scale development potential in the near future.
He introduced AEON’s operations and development strategy in Vietnam, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City. More than a decade ago, AEON Vietnam opened its first shopping center in the Celadon Tan Phu residential area and has since expanded its market presence. Including areas recently merged into Ho Chi Minh City such as Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, AEON currently operates three major shopping centers in the city.
In the near future, the group plans to invest in three additional shopping centers with total investments of several trillion VND (equivalent to hundreds of millions of USD), requiring about 1,000 to 1,500 staff for operations.
“Vietnam is our second most important market after Japan. By 2030, AEON aims to triple its current network of shopping centers, thereby boosting consumption of Vietnamese products, promoting AEON’s own products, and supporting the export of Vietnamese goods abroad,” said Mr. Tezuka Daisuke.
He also expressed gratitude for the support from Ho Chi Minh City authorities, which has enabled AEON to operate effectively. He hopes the city’s leadership will continue facilitating AEON’s expansion efforts.
During the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc expressed strong support for AEON’s investment in Vietnam, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, to enhance shopping spaces for residents.
He affirmed that the city values the presence and contributions of strategic investors like AEON. Ho Chi Minh City is committed to supporting AEON in expanding investment and implementing new projects in compliance with legal regulations, particularly as the city expands its administrative boundaries and rapidly develops its trade and logistics infrastructure.
Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc also expressed hope that AEON would continue to partner with the city in priority areas such as sustainable green retail, logistics, promoting Vietnamese goods, workforce training, and building a modern consumer ecosystem.
