A video capturing the moment when a large family from Ben Tre traveled has been seen by many people on social media.
The group of travelers rented a large coach that was spacious enough for storing food and cooking instruments.
When they reached a rest stop, they set up their cooking station, prepared ingredients, cooked, and ate right on the spot.
“We had bread for breakfast and traveled. Mid-day, we found a place to rest and drink water, and then had lunch,” the owner of the video said.
“This is just one of the meals. Before departure, we prepared enough food to eat all day during the trip,” she said.
The video has attracted many comments.
While some people applauded the trip of the family and their way of organizing tours, others argued that traveling should be a time to rest and enjoy local food and scenery, and it would be better not to waste time cooking and tidying up.
Thanh Phan, 30, from Ben Tre, told VietNamNet that the viral videos were filmed when her large family visited the Ba Chua Xu Temple in Chau Doc of An Giang province on the 15-16th of the lunar month.
The trip was fully sponsored by Phan’s family. In addition to her family, she invited neighbors and some loyal customers, totaling 45 individuals.
"We organize such a tour every year, covering all expenses for a pilgrimage combined with a spring visit to An Giang. We accept two members from each family. This tradition has been maintained for 20 years," Phan said.
Since it takes 8-9 hours to travel from Phan's home in My Hung village in Thanh Phu district in Ben Tre province to Ba Chua Xu Shrine (Sam Mountain, Chau Doc city, An Giang province) they need to bring enough food for the trip.
"There aren't many restaurants or local specialties on the way, so bringing food proves to be the best choice,” she said. “Also, eating together helps people enjoy their time and communicate with each other."
Phan explained that though they brought their own food, they still visit many tourism sites and enjoy local specialties on their way.
Their destinations each year vary. In previous years, they traveled to Ha Tien and Cam Mountain.
