On July 19, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly convened to review and officially approve the resignation of Do Duc Duy from his role as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly, representing the Lao Cai delegation.

Based on recommendations from relevant authorities, a report from the Standing Committee of the Committee for Deputy Affairs, and Mr. Do Duc Duy’s personal request to resign, the National Assembly Standing Committee discussed, voted on, and issued a resolution allowing him to step down from his legislative duties.

Previously, on July 17, following the proposal from the Central Inspection Committee regarding disciplinary action against party members, the Politburo determined that Do Duc Duy - then a member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Party Committee of the Government, Party Secretary, and Minister of Agriculture and Environment - had violated Party regulations and state laws during his tenure as Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Bai province.

Mr. Duy was found to have violated the principle of democratic centralism, working regulations, and regulations on what Party members are prohibited from doing. He also failed to uphold the standards of exemplary conduct, resulting in serious consequences, negative public opinion, and diminished credibility for the Party and the government bodies where he served.

Taking into account the nature, extent, and impact of his violations, the Politburo decided to issue an official warning against Do Duc Duy in accordance with the Party’s disciplinary rules.

Subsequently, the President issued a decision on July 17 to suspend Do Duc Duy from his position as Minister of Agriculture and Environment for the 2021-2026 term. This suspension is in effect until the National Assembly officially relieves him of the ministerial post as required by law.

On July 20, the Party Central Committee also approved the request for Mr. Duy to step down from his position as a member of the 13th Party Central Committee.
