Da Nang’s police leadership has formally apologized to residents for delays in organizing the city's first driving license examination since assuming responsibility from the former Department of Transport. The delay was attributed to the need for a thorough review to ensure a smooth transition in line with regulations and to prevent losses or misconduct.

On May 6, the Da Nang City Police held their first driver’s license test under their newly assigned function, with 137 motorcycle students from the STC Driving Training Center and 75 candidates whose licenses had expired taking part.

Colonel Tran Phong, Deputy Director of Da Nang Police, stated that Da Nang is the seventh locality in Vietnam to conduct the driving test under this new framework assigned by the Ministry of Public Security, following Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Tien Giang, Hau Giang, and Can Tho.

The police department's leadership openly apologized for the testing delay, citing the importance of reviewing procedures and coordinating with relevant bodies to ensure a proper, rule-based handover and avoid negative incidents.

On the first day of testing, more than 200 candidates took part in car and motorcycle license exams.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Thuong, Head of the Da Nang City Police Traffic Department, called the test a significant milestone in the traffic police’s new role managing the state function of licensing drivers.

"After more than two months of suspension, today’s driving test is not just an exam - it’s a process to filter and assess each citizen’s sense of responsibility when participating in traffic," said Lt. Col. Thuong.

Dak Nong becomes the first Central Highlands province to hold driving test

On the same morning, May 6, Dak Nong Provincial Police organized its first motor vehicle license exam at the Nam Cao Nguyen Driving Training & Testing Center (Cu Jut District) after taking over the role from the provincial Department of Transport.

Around 200 candidates participated in the test, which was monitored using a camera and sensor system to ensure fairness in scoring.

Major Dang Van Tu, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Police Department and Chairman of the Testing Council, said Dak Nong is the first province in the Central Highlands - and one of the first five nationwide - eligible and fully prepared to host a driving license exam for category B vehicles under the new responsibilities.

"After this first test, we will hold a review meeting to improve future exams and ensure better convenience for the public," said Major Tu.
