After several days of hearings and deliberations, the Hanoi People's Court this morning (April 29) announced the verdicts for the defendants involved in the case of "abuse of power while performing official duties" and "lack of responsibility causing serious consequences" at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and various provinces and cities.

The court handed down the following sentences:

Hoang Quoc Vuong (former Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade): six years in prison.

Pham Quang Vinh (former Deputy Head of Inspection and Supervision 1, Binh Phuoc Provincial Tax Department): three years' probation.

Phuong Hoang Kim (former Director of the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy - Ministry of Industry and Trade): six years in prison.

Trinh Van Doan (former Officer of the Licensing and Public Relations Department, Electricity Regulatory Authority - Ministry of Industry and Trade): five years and six months in prison.

Nguyen Duy Khanh (former Deputy Director of the Binh Phuoc Provincial Tax Department): three years' probation.

Tran Van Dinh (former Head of the Inspection and Supervision Department, Binh Phuoc Provincial Tax Department): three years' probation.

According to the court's assessment, the defendants' actions were dangerous to society, caused public outrage, and resulted in substantial financial losses, thus requiring strict penalties.

The fact that Hoang Quoc Vuong and the other defendants had made compensation payments was considered a mitigating factor.
