From July 1 to August 11, the Vietnam U20 women’s national team officially enters an extended training camp to prepare for Group B matches in the qualifiers for the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Championship. The matches will take place from August 6 to 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi.
Under the guidance of Japanese head coach Okiyama Masahiko, the team has called up 29 players from provinces with strong women’s football programs. Ha Nam and Thai Nguyen contribute 8 players each, Hanoi sends 7, Ho Chi Minh City has 4, and Vinh Phuc and Quang Ninh each have one representative.
Most of the players selected were part of the squad for the 2025 AFF U19 Women’s Championship, the first official tournament under coach Okiyama since his arrival in Vietnam.
Three new faces receiving their first call-ups are Lo Thi Huyen Trang (Ha Nam), Dao Khanh Vy (Hanoi), and Ca Thi Phuong (Thai Nguyen). Some players are absent due to injury treatment or participation in the National U16 Women’s Championship.
Coach Okiyama Masahiko shared his thoughts on this training camp: “Based on the playing style we developed in the previous training phase, the players performed very well in the Southeast Asian tournament. The final against Thailand left some regrets, but I believe we can compete on equal footing and aim for the title in the future.”
The Japanese coach also expressed optimism: “I’m now familiar with coaching in Vietnam. The players are cheerful, friendly, and eager to learn. This training period will be crucial for addressing issues from the previous competition and gaining experience through international friendlies.”
According to the schedule, the team’s first training session will be held on the afternoon of July 1. They will remain in Hanoi for 10 days before departing for a training trip to Japan from July 11 to 21. This will provide an important opportunity for the Vietnam U20 women's squad to gain valuable match experience ahead of the Asian Championship qualifiers.
As hosts of Group B, the Vietnam U20 women's team will face U20 Kyrgyzstan, U20 Hong Kong (China), and U20 Singapore in the qualifiers for the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Championship.
