On July 22, the Border Guard Station at Moc Bai International Border Gate (Tay Ninh Province) confirmed it had coordinated with the professional division of Tay Ninh’s Border Defense Command and the provincial police to receive 161 citizens deported by Cambodia, with support from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia.
Among the 161 returnees, there were 28 women and 133 men. Most of them had been lured or coerced into working for online fraud organizations operating in Cambodia.
These individuals were forced to impersonate officials from the electricity sector, tax agencies, or cybersecurity experts and make scam calls targeting victims - primarily financially secure women. The victims would be persuaded to install malicious applications designed to steal their assets. Those who failed to meet targets or refused to cooperate were subjected to physical abuse and mistreatment.
Following a series of raids, Cambodian authorities uncovered hundreds of Vietnamese nationals working for such fraudulent networks. After being detained, they were deported via the Moc Bai International Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province.
Vietnamese authorities have since screened and classified the deported individuals to conduct further investigations into their involvement in online scam activities.
Just a few days earlier, the same border guard unit received an additional 45 Vietnamese citizens also deported by Cambodia for similar reasons - working for online scam organizations.
