The weather in Ho Chi Minh City continues to be hot and sunny, with the highest recorded air temperature reaching 35°C.
However, due to prolonged heat, limited rainfall, and heat accumulation, the actual perceived or "feels-like" temperature outdoors today could soar to 53°C.
This morning (April 23), Le Dinh Quyet, Head of Forecasting at the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, said that from April 23 to 26, Ho Chi Minh City will experience sunshine during the morning, midday, and afternoon. Central and northern parts of the city will see more intense heat.
Notably, in the late afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas, including possibilities of moderate to heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by lightning, strong gusts, and tornado-like winds. The highest air temperature will range from 33°C to 35°C.
Quyet warned that today's perceived temperature could reach 53°C, nearly 20 degrees higher than the meteorological reading.
This phenomenon is caused by heat absorption from concrete and asphalt. When followed by light rainfall, the retained heat is released back into the atmosphere, intensifying the heat. The most intense period of heat each day typically lasts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From April 23 to 26, the frequency of thunderstorms and showers is expected to increase, yet perceived temperatures will likely remain between 46°C and 52°C. After several days of extreme heat, residents are advised to stay alert for possible thunderstorms, lightning, and sudden strong winds.
From April 27 to May 2, the hot weather in Ho Chi Minh City is forecast to persist, with maximum temperatures ranging from 34°C to 36°C, mainly from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
