In response to social media posts from the Facebook account "Jonny Lieu" alleging food safety violations by C.P. Vietnam, Mr. Duong Tat Thang of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development told VietNamNet on the evening of May 30 that he had immediately directed local authorities in Soc Trang to verify the situation.
Additionally, the department has assigned specialized units to conduct a full inspection of C.P. Vietnam’s activities in Soc Trang to determine the validity of the allegations.
Mr. Thang confirmed that once the inspection report is completed, the department will inform media outlets of the findings.
Earlier on May 30, a joint inspection team from Soc Trang province visited a Fresh Shop outlet operated by C.P. Vietnam at 45 Trieu Nuong Street, Chau Thanh Hamlet, My Xuyen Town, My Xuyen District.
Previously, Facebook posts shared by the account “Jonny Lieu” claimed that C.P. Vietnam had committed food safety violations. In response, C.P. Vietnam released a statement rejecting the accusations: “We affirm that all information posted by the Facebook account 'Jonny Lieu' and the Zalo account 'Ngan Tech' is fabricated and false, intended to defame and cause harm to the company.”
In the early afternoon of May 30, a multi-agency inspection team - including representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and the provincial economic security office - visited the Fresh Shop outlet in My Xuyen.
Speaking to VietNamNet, Lam Minh Hoang, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Soc Trang, stated that initial inspections showed the shop met food safety standards. All pork products bore veterinary inspection stamps, and physical examination confirmed the meat was clean, with no chemicals or preservatives detected. The store also provided complete documentation related to the origin of its food products.
According to Mr. Hoang, Soc Trang has 52 centralized slaughterhouses. Official and contracted veterinary staff carry out inspections and animal health checks at these facilities every night. “We maintain strict control over livestock entering centralized slaughterhouses in the province,” Hoang affirmed.
