Experts from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting have issued the following 10-day weather outlook for July 20–29, 2025:
The prevailing weather pattern during this period will be a tropical convergence zone centered around 23–26°N latitude, extending from Typhoon Wipha, which is expected to remain active for another 4–5 days before weakening.
Typhoon Wipha is forecast to intensify, reaching a peak intensity of level 12 (very strong) with gusts up to level 15 as it nears the Leizhou Peninsula (China). The storm will bring a wave of heavy to very heavy rain to the northern region, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces. The hardest-hit areas are expected to include the Northeast, the Red River Delta, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An.
Due to this system, various regions across the country will see significant weather fluctuations over the next 10 days:
Northern Vietnam, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An: From July 20–24, expect heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms. From July 25 onward, rainfall will gradually decrease but moderate to heavy showers may continue in northern mountainous areas. Given the intensity of the rain, flash floods and landslides are likely, particularly on July 21–22.
From Ha Tinh to Lam Dong: The first two days will be hot, with isolated showers in the evenings. By around July 22, widespread heat will subside, replaced by scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam: Light rain and thunderstorms will occur in some areas during the first two days, followed by more widespread rain and storms in the afternoons and evenings. From July 22 onward, scattered rainfall is expected across the region.
Hanoi weather outlook: From July 20–24, the capital will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. From July 25, rainfall will decrease and temperatures will gradually rise. Daytime highs for the first five days will range from 29–31°C, with nighttime lows around 26–28°C. From July 25–29, highs will increase to 31–34°C.
Meteorologists warn that thunderstorms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusty winds. Localized heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and urban flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents and local authorities are advised to proactively prepare for extreme weather events.
